This Saturday’s guests on “This is Hell”:http://www.thisishell.net/ follow the articles.

The Muslim News (12/3/06) “Australian Mosque to get police guard for bikini rally.”:http://www.muslimnews.co.uk/news/news.php?article=12097 Melbourne grandmother Christine Hawkins has asked women nationally to dress in bikinis and colourful beachwear and rally outside large mosques to show their disgust at comments by leading Muslim cleric, Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly, who likened women to “uncovered meat.” And more from the Herald Sun (12/7/06) “Bikini march sparks retort.”:http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,20884533-2862,00.html Muslims, socialists, unions and other groups will conduct a counter-rally against the “Great Australian Bikini March” who plan to march on a Brunswick mosque on Saturday. Police will monitor the demonstrations, after white supremacists claimed to have infiltrated bikini protest ranks, increasing the potential for confrontation. Do White Supremacists wear bikinis? It should be easy to spot the White Supremacist, even in bikinis, the swastika tattoos are a dead give-away.

Americans United (12/5/06) “Falwell’s Flub: Jerry-Rigged Policy Opens Door For Pagan Proselytizing In Virginia Public School.”:http://blog.au.org/2006/12/falwells_flub_j.html Christians lobbied to distribute fliers in schools; pagans take advantage. A Christian family in central Virginia used a religious group run by Jerry Falwell to force their school to allow distribution of religious fliers to the children. A pagan group in the same area took advantage of the newly created loophole and distributed fliers of their own. Now the religious right is fuming mad. Falwell group opens public school’s door of pagan propaganda

Inter Press Service (12/7/06) “U.S. Gag Rule Killing Women, Experts Say.”:http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=35764 While world attention has focused on the HIV/AIDS pandemic, public health experts say that U.S. political interference and declining financial support for family planning, abortion and prevention of other sexually transmitted infections has contributed to shockingly high death and disability rates in developing countries.

CBC News (11/24/06) “Deadly toll of unsafe abortions tallied for developing world.”:http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2006/11/24/abortions-unsafe.html?ref=rss About 68,000 women die each year in the developing world because of unsafe abortions, a new study suggests. “The most effective way of eliminating this highly preventable cause of maternal illness and death would be to make safe and legal abortion services available and accessible,” the researchers concluded.

Reuters (12/8/06) “Jailed Media Worldwide Hits Record: US Watchdog.”:http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/news/news-journalists-jail.html?_r=1&oref=slogin “The number of journalists jailed worldwide for their work rose for the second year with Internet bloggers and online reporters now one third of those incarcerated, a U.S. based media watchdog said on Thursday. A Committee to Protect Journalists census found that a record 134 journalists were in jail on December 1, an increase of nine from the 2005 tally, in 24 countries with China, Cuba, Eritrea and Ethiopia the top four nations to imprison media.”

25 years, Mumia Abu-Jamal; Forgotten injustice CounterPunch (12/1/06) “The Mumia Abu-Jamal Case After 25 Years: Still More Keystone Kops Antics.”:http://www.counterpunch.org/washington12012006.html Only in America could a trial judge say “I’ll help them fry the Nigger,” and be considered fair. Forgotten injustice. And Counterpunch (12/7/06) “Prosecutor Admits Mumia Had No ‘True Defense’.”:http://www.counterpunch.org/lindorff12072006.html Mumia Abu-Jamal Case Goes to Third Circuit. By Dave Lindorff.

The 22nd anniversary of Bhopal and people are still suffering and dying. TomPaine.com (12/5/06) “The Circle Of Poison Continues.”:http://www.tompaine.com/articles/2006/12/05/the_circle_of_poison_continues.php Justice denied in Bhopal has meant more risk for Americans as well as Indians. “It’s December again, time for Christmas music, office holiday parties—and the anniversary of the world’s worst industrial catastrophe, the Bhopal gas disaster. Twenty-two years ago this week in Bhopal, India, a midnight feast of methyl isocyanate and hydrogen cyanide was served to 400,000, courtesy of the U.S.-based Union Carbide Corporation, now fully owned by Dow Chemical. The gas killed about 8,000 people that night, and has slowly poisoned to death at least another 12,000 since. In fact, in Bhopal today people are still dying, suffering, drinking contaminated water, and worrying about the future of their children, many of whom suffer from deformities or genetic disorders.”

Dams causing problems in Brazil – and worldwide. Reuters (12/7/06) “Amazon dam project draws heated opposition in Brazil.”:http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N07448760.htm Rubber tappers, fishermen and Indians in western Brazil have joined environmental groups in battling a planned $9 billion hydroelectric project that will flood one of the Amazon’s main tributaries. It’s not just Brazil. OnEarth Magazine (12/8/06) “The Consequences of Damming Rivers in the Developing World.”:http://www.alternet.org/envirohealth/45211/ A review of author Jacques Leslie’s new book, which lays bare the high environmental and social price that people in the developing world often pay for damming their rivers.

McClatchy Newspapers (12/7/06) “Analysts: U.S. at Root of Effort to Topple Lebanese Government.”:http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/16188334.htm “American political leaders watched with alarm during the past week as the Hezbollah militia laid siege to the U.S. backed Lebanese government, but few would acknowledge publicly what most analysts and politicians here say is obvious: American policy may bear much of the blame. Many in Beirut say that U.S. failure to stop Israel’s onslaught against Hezbollah last summer crippled the Lebanese government, a U.S. ally, while strengthening Hezbollah – a U.S. enemy. That created an environment in which the Shiite Muslim militia could call for overthrowing Sunni Muslim Prime Minister Fuad Saniora and his Cabinet.”

BBC News (12/5/06) “Inquiry into ‘Eta-Venezuela deal’.”:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6211752.stm The Spanish government is investigating claims that Venezuela has granted citizenship to four suspected members of the Basque separatist group Eta. Or maybe not. Venezuelanalysis.com (12/7/06) “Venezuela Denies Reports on Nationalization of ETA Members.”:http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/news.php?newsno=2169 “President Hugo Chávez’ Government Tuesday gave assurances to Spain that Caracas will not grant the Venezuelan nationality to four members of Basque terrorist group ETA residing in Venezuela and will not pay any damages to two other ETA activists expelled in 2002, diplomatic sources told Efe.”

Human Rights Watch (12/7/06) “India: Military Aid to Burma Fuels Abuses.”:http://www.yubanet.com/artman/publish/article_47051.shtml India Must Halt Arms Sales and Training to Burmese Army. “The Indian government is offering a package of military assistance to the Burmese army, which is likely to use such arms and training to attack against civilians in its war against ethnic insurgents, Human Rights Watch said today.”

The Associated Press (12/8/06) “Saudis major provider of finance to insurgents.”:http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2006/12/07/2671035-ap.html Saudis are financing the Sunni insurgents. “Private Saudi citizens are giving millions of dollars to Sunni insurgents in Iraq and much of the money is used to buy weapons, including shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles, according to key Iraqi officials and others familiar with the flow of cash.” In other words, they are paying for the weapons that are killing U.S. troops. What kind of ally is that?

Pakistan uses the ‘War on Terror’ to justify disappearances, and when there isn’t enough of a ‘terror’ threat, they are accused of creating one. Inter Press Service (12/6/06) “Rights-Pakistan: ‘War on Terror’ an Excuse for Disappearances.”:http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=35733 “A taste of their own medicine would be the best punishment for these people,” says Mohammad Atif, 23, when asked how agents of the state who kidnapped and detained him for two years should be punished. “The only problem is no one can touch these people.” Creating a threat? BBC News (12/7/06) “Pakistan agent held over ‘bomb.’”:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6217332.stm A Pakistani civilian intelligence agent accused of planting a bomb at the house of North West Frontier Province’s chief minister has been handed to police. “This was an attempt by the federal government to show how bad the law and order situation is in NWFP, but their designs have been exposed.”

Reuters (12/5/06) “U.S. Predicts Bumper Year in Arms Sales.”:http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/1205-07.htm “The U.S. government is on its way to brokering about $20 billion in arms sales in the fiscal year that began October 1, steady with last year’s near-record total, the Pentagon official responsible for such sales said on Monday.” The U.S. is doing its very best to contribute to chaos and violence of the world.

Inter Press Service (12/7/06) “Mexico: Arrests Suffocate Oaxaca Uprising.”:http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=35763 “They have not defeated us, we are still strong and we’ll soon show them,” one of the leaders of the social uprising in the Mexican state of Oaxaca said Thursday. So far 20 people have died, another 50 are missing or ‘disappeared’ and 250 are in jail.

Notes
Chock full of nutritious news today and I had to cut some really good stuff.

Had this observation from my brother. Since at least the 60’s, government assassins have been able to kill people with chemicals that leave no evidence. The killers of Alexander Litvenenko left a very large footprint. If his murderers had wanted to be stealthy they certainly could have. This was meant as a message to other dissidents.
