Shias want Saddam execution broadcast live
After a shambles of a show trial, the Bush administration’s attempts to impose the American way in Iraq look like achieving one notable success, a TV spectacular with Saddam’s execution as the highlight.
Near the bottom of one article announcing the verdict came this nugget:
Former US attorney general Ramsey Clark, was ejected from the courtroom after handing the judge a memorandum in which he called the Saddam trial a travesty.
Sums it all up really.

Iraq’S fallen dictator Saddam Hussein would be hanged by the end of January, an adviser to the country’s Prime Minister predicted yesterday, while Shia citizens demanded that his execution should be televised.
“I don’t think it will drag on beyond January of next year,” Haider al-Abadi, an MP who is a confidant of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, said.
Saddam, 69, was sentenced to death on Sunday for ordering a brutal crackdown that claimed the lives of 148 Shia from the village of Dujail, north of Baghdad, after he had survived a 1982 assassination attempt.
Iraq’s high tribunal also gave the death penalty to Barzan al-Tikriti, Saddam’s half-brother, and Awad Ahmed al-Bandar, the head of the ousted regime’s Revolutionary Court who recommended that the 148 Dujailis be killed.

The Times interviewed two average joes from Sadr City and then they generalize it to all Shia? Pfffffft…...
Anyone who knows what they’re talking about is talking about putting the man on trial for every crime. Not just executing him after he’s just been convicted of one relatively small crime. People who are in a hurry to send him down the river are undoubtedly concerned about what might come to light about their own sorry arses.
With millions of Iraqis under strict curfew in advance of and following the public announcement of Saddam’s sentence, live broadcast of his execution by hanging is highly unlikely.
This story was spun for pre-election day release and domestic consumption.
A random sample of two is truly incredulous.
we already did it with McVeigh, let’s do it again!
We should set up a seperate arabic TV channel that is just a continuous loop of Saddam being executed.
Anyone that says that the channel is inflaming anti-American sentiment can be labeled a terrorist-lover and a freedom-hater.
“Anyone who knows what they’re talking about is talking about putting the man on trial for every crime. Not just executing him after he’s just been convicted of one relatively small crime.”
Alas microdot many of his larger crimes have US fingerprints all over them and are just too difficult to convict him on without a little Washington embarassment slipping out.
Wombat, all too true.
still…
...I’d watch that shit. >.>
