Summary:

U.S. intelligence has reported that they believe Muqtada al-Sadr, the Shia leader who leads the Mahdi Army militia, is in Tehran. ABC News has reported al-Sadr’s motives as one of security in the face of the impending crackdown in Baghdad and internal divisions in his own organization. Aides to al-Sadr deny all of this and say he is working normally in Iraq.

Could this be part of a U.S. psyop to help ready the American public for an air strike or even an invasion of Iran? Meanwhile, Iraqi military operations chief has announced the closing of Iraq’s borders with Iran and Syria.

Iraq to close borders with Iran and Syria

US military officials say they believe Muqtada al-Sadr, the Shia leader who leads the Mahdi Army militia, has fled Iraq in advance of a security crackdown in Baghdad.

US intelligence officials say al-Sadr is in Tehran but a senior aide to the cleric told the AFP news agency on Wednesday that he was “still inside Iraq and working normally”.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s nothing,” Nassar al-Rubaie said of the claims.

ABC News network reported that al-Sadr had left Iraq because of fears that he might be targeted in US air strikes and concerns over his safety due to divisions within his organisation.
The Iraqi commander of the operation announced on Tuesday that the country’s borders with Syria and Iran will be closed as part of an attempt to end the violence.

Lieutenant-General Abboud Gambar did not say when the borders would be shut, but another official said it was expected within two days and would only partially reopen after the closure.

They are harping on this point. I heard it on the radio like 3 times today.
The only thing I believe from what I hear in the news about Iran is that the bombs will be falling soon.

what was that saying… no blood for oil?

What if he’s in the bahamas?

tenbob @ 02/15/07 05:31:50

What if he’s in the bahamas?

If so, he’s probably filing a paternity claim for Anna Nicole Smith’s kid.

Pretty transparent what they’re doing. Sick fucks.

Snark @ 02/15/07 06:10:53

I don’t get it…who gives a fuck where he is? It’s not like he can’t give commands from another country. They have cell phones over there, y’know.

LOL. The US MIC is confusing Sadr’s Mehdi Army with Al-Hakim’s Badr Brigade. It’s that dr sound. Very confusing. I’d have to agree. But SCIRI’s the Iranian Shia connection. Muqtada ain’t budged. Where ever he is.

What Sadr is is the guy that’s the MICkey’s problem in Iraq. And they want another item to tick off on their list to nail Iran.

So they probably haven’t made the Sadr Badr error. They’re just hoping everyone else will.

microdot @ 02/15/07 12:56:05

Muqtada’s not a cut and run kinda guy. So but the other thing the corporate media might be shooting for is giving the impression that he is that kinda guy. Like maybe he’s scared or something.

Pffffttttt…...

microdot @ 02/15/07 12:56:34

I think the fact that he might be in Iran is a great reason to cruise-missile the whole country.

It’s realy no point in where al-sadr realy is. Goal is already achived. CNN gets headlines, fighters are confused, Al – Sadr is in position to justify whereabouts like pupet on a string. Everybody must defend them self beyond media curtain.

komossabe @ 02/15/07 14:21:33

They’re clearly trying to get him to hold a press conference so that they can detain/kill him.

It’s a logical escalation after the arresting of his aides.
