OPEN QUOTE

the algorithmic information content (or AIC) of a string of bits is defined as the length of the shortest program that will cause a standard universal computer to print out the string of bits and then halt.

As measures of something like complexity for an entity in the real world, all such quantities are to some extent context-dependent or even subjective. They depend on

1. the coarse graining (level of detail) of the description of the entity, on

2. the previous knowledge and understanding of the world that is assumed, on

3. the language employed, on

4. the coding method used for conversion from that language into a string of bits, and on

5. the particular ideal computer chosen as a standard.

There can exist no procedure for finding the set of all regularities of an entity. But classes of regularities can be identified. Finding regularities typically refers to taking the available data about the entity, processing it in some manner into, say, a bit string, and then dividing that string into parts in a particular way and looking for mutual AIC among the parts. If a string is divided into two parts, for example, the mutual AIC can be taken to be the sum of the AIC’s of the parts minus the AIC of the whole. An amount of mutual algorithmic information content above a certain threshold can be considered diagnostic of a regularity. Given the identified regularities, the corresponding effective complexity is the AIC of a description of those regularities.

END OF QUOTE in other words . . .

when you identify complexity, what you are identifying is algorithmic information content — in other words, you are actually SIMPLIFYING what initially started out being gobbledigook.

Sorry, I’m afraid this is very interesting to me (LOL) :

Johns Hopkins researcher Bert Vogelstein suggests

more short-term research should focus on using the new knowledge of cancer genetics to develop genetic screening tests

OPEN QUOTE

The Human Genome Project initially was focused on cataloging all the genes of the human body. At the beginning of the 1990s, the original researchers expected to find at least 120,000 genes, because that’s the minimum they projected it would take to code all the characteristics of an organism as complex as a human being. Our bodies manufacture about 100,000 proteins, the building blocks of cells.

The further the project progressed, the smaller the estimates of the number of genes became. When the project finished its catalog, they had mapped the human genome as consisting of just 23,688 genes.

END OF QUOTE

So 20,000 genes is FN practically ALL of ‘em. Where’s the information dollfeet?

D’oh.

Maybe what the research is suggesting is that the causes of cancer are actually much SIMPLER than previously thought. Maybe looking at the genes is barking up the WRONG tree. Try that one on for size.

Materialists are some of the most stubborn people on earth.

To call what these genes are doing “mutating” is assigning a value judgement. Everybody please throw out the convention.

Modern science refers to the behavior as “expressing”. Genes “express” — they don’t “mutate”.

And it’s not a “mutation”/serendipitous random act of chance/God.

Researchers estimate that approximately 90% of all genes are engaged … in cooperation with

signals from the environment

Welcome to the wonderful world epigenetics!

Science got another taste of reality this week.

bwahaha! So science got a taste of “reality” through further scientific research published in the journal “Science?” Science got another taste of science this week!

Why exactly would the cancer industry/ cancer researchers want to cure cancer in the first place? How are they going to pay back all their student loans once cancer disappears?

Someone should come up with a ‘final solution’ to this problem!
