Great article dikweed, thanks for posting it. It’s interesting to read such a straight up assessment of her character. It’s actually one of the more interesting, informative and useful bits of writing dealing about Palin that I’ve read. It lays out her history and gives some real insight into what kind of politician she is rather than the usual inane mudslinging and name calling.

If elected, McCain is bound to die in office. Then a mong will be in charge.

Believe me. The last thing I cared to do was post anything about duopoly candidates. I think a Republican might read this and say, “Palin, I like her.”

For me, this post is more about Ann Kilkenny, as a civic model. Her civic tenure— simply as an attendee at City Council meetings. Her (it seems) objectiveness— while presenting some of her own personal character. Her civic scrutiny, presentation and model of critique.

I can’t recall a political analysis I’ve enjoyed more thoroughly.

dikweed – Yeah, I must say that I have a lot of respect for Kilkenny after reading this and she does make a good model of an engaged citizen. The piece is insightful, refreshingly free of hyperbole, and more informative than anything else I’ve read about Palin. I’m sure you’re right that some people may read it and go “right on, Palin’s my kinda lady” but there may also be some people who were into her who realize she’s not quite what they thought too so that could go either way. Ultimately, what I like about this is though it’s written in a personal voice it’s actually got more facts and info than many “news” pieces on Palin and, because it’s not propaganda, it respects the reader enough to allow us to make up our own minds based upon what’s presented rather than trying to manipulate based upon emotion.

Wasilla woman’s e-mail offering firsthand critique of Palin becomes Internet sensation

By S.J. Komarnitsky / McClatchy Newspapers, Sunday, September 7, 2008 – Added 2h ago [before now]

“Here’s a person who didn’t just jet in and talk to three people on one day, but has been in the town and watched it very carefully,” [Crosscut, online journalism Publisher David Brewster] said.

The letter also lacked the strident tone many adopt, he said.

“It didn’t have a sort of prosecutorial throw everything at her (Palin) tone,” he said. “It was kind of an ordinary citizen activist trying to be fair and trying to be candid.”

“It’s not to make her look bad. It’s not to make her look good. It’s just to make her what she is,” [Kilkenny] said.

[Critics] have accused her of being a tool of the Democrats. She is a longtime registered Democrat. Her motivation in writing the letter was simply for people to be informed, she said.

“How’s anyone to know if the people who do know don’t say anything?” she asked.

It was good and informative, however, it was highly partisan, and totally and completely propaganda in all the idiomatic senses of the term.

Good for her!

But what about that slut Bristol and the bad parents?
The fake pregnancy?
The rampant abuse of what little power she has garnered so far?

Good thing we have articles like this because there is a complete vacuum in the mainstream media about anything politics these days.
