maybe people want to post inspiring quotes and comments on quotes that can help give some context or precedent to where we are right now? People seem a bit down about the other puppet not getting the whitehouse job.

so here are 2 quotes from the past:

“Every movement has its birth in the spirit of music, through which it acts, but after a lapse of time it degenerates and begins to lose the musical, the primal element out of which it was born and, as a result, perishes. It ceases to become culture and becomes civilization. Thus it was in the ancient world – thus it is with us.”

— Alexander Blok, 1918 —

“It is not what separates the United States and the Soviet Union that should frighten us, but what they have in common…those two technocracies that think themselves antagonists, are dragging humanity in the same direction of dehumanization…Man is treated as a means, and no longer as an end…This is the indispensable condition of the two cultures that face each other.”

— François Mauriac, French Catholic leader. excerpt from Ben Shahn “The Artist and the Politician”. —

the neo-cons and their islamist fundamentalist official enemies are pretty much on the same page philisophically?

“This the end. My only friend the end” – the doors

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, from those who are cold and are not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.” – —-Dwight D. Eisenhower

“ If them wanna win da revolution, dey must win it with Rasta, you can’t win no other way. Because if you win other way… your gonna fight again. When you Rasta win, der no more war.” Bob Marley

“When you begin a great work you can’t expect to finish it all at once:therefore do you and your brothers press on, and let nothing discourageyou till you have finally finished what you have begun.
Now Brother, as for me, I assure you I will press on, and the contrary winds may blow strong in my face, yet I will go forward and never turn back, and continue to press forward until I have finished, and I would have you do the same…Though you may hear the birds singing on this side and that side, you must not take notice of that, but hear me when I speak to you, and take it to heart, for you may always depend that what I say shall be true”

Democracy and violence can ill go together.
Evolution of democracy is not possible if we are not prepared to hear the other side.

“The further
the spiritual evolution
of mankind advances, the more certain
it seems to me that
the path to genuine
religiosity does not lie
through the
fear of life,
and the fear of death,
and blind faith,
but through
striving
after rational
knowledge.”

“I
am absolutely convinced
that no amount of wealth can help humanity
forward,
even in the hands
of the most dedicated worker in this cause.
The
example of great
and pure personalities can lead us to noble deeds
and views.
Money only appeals to
selfishness,
and, without fail, it
tempts
its owner to abuse it. Can anyone imagine Moses,
Jesus,
or Gandhi
with the moneybags of Carnegie?”

Albert Einstein

“Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt. He therefore is the truest friend of the liberty of his country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who, so far as his power and influence extend, will not suffer a man to be chosen onto any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man.”

Samuel Adams

“Human nature itself is evermore an advocate for liberty. There is also in human nature a resentment of injury, and indignation against wrong. A love of truth and a veneration of virtue. These amiable passions, are the ‘latent spark’ ... If the people are capable of understanding, seeing and feeling the differences between true and false, right and wrong, virtue and vice, to what better principle can the friends of mankind apply than to the sense of this difference.”

John Adams

“If vice and corruption prevail, liberty cannot subsist; but if virtue have the advantage, arbitrary power cannot be established.”

Algernon Sidney

“our civil rights have no dependence on our religious opinions, any more than our opinions in physics or geometry.”

Thomas Jefferson

“The diminution of public virtue is usually attended with that of public happiness, and the public liberty will not long survive the total extinction of morals.”

Samuel Adams

Everything you’ve learned in school as “obvious” becomes less and less obvious as you begin to study the universe. For example, there are no solids in the universe. There’s not even a suggestion of a solid. There are no absolute continuums. There are no surfaces. There are no straight lines.
R. Buckminster Fuller

“Humanity is moving ever deeper into crisis – a crisis without precedent. First, it is a crisis brought about by cosmic evolution irrevocably intent upon completely transforming omnidisintegrated humanity from a complex of around-the-world, remotely-deployed-from-one-another, differently colored, differently credoed, differently cultured, differently communicating, and differently competing entities into a completely integrated, comprehensively interconsiderate, harmonious whole. Second, we are in an unprecedented crisis because cosmic evolution is also irrevocably intent upon making omni-integrated humanity omnisuccessful, able to live sustainingly at an unprecedentedly higher standard of living for all Earthians than has ever been experienced by any; able to live entirely within its cosmic-energy income instead of spending its cosmic energy savings account (i.e., the fossil fuels) or spending its cosmic-capital plant and equipment account (i.e., atomic energy)-the atoms with which our Spaceship Earth and its biosphere are structured and equipped-a spending folly no less illogical than burning your house-and-home to keep the family warm on an unprecedentedly cold midwinter night. Humanity’s cosmic-energy income account consists entirely of our gravity-and star (99 percent Sun)-distributed cosmic dividends of water power, tidal power, wave power, wind power, vegetation-produced alcohols, methane gas, vulcanism, and so on. Humanity’s present rate of total energy consumption amounts to only one four-millionth of one percent of the rate of its energy income. ...Ninety-nine percent of humanity does not know that we have the option to make it economically on this planet and in the Universe. We do.”
— Buckminster Fuller, from the introduction to Critical Path

The world is like a ride at an amusement park and when you choose to go on it you think it’s real because that’s how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it’s very brightly colored and it’s very loud. And it’s fun, for awhile.

Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question:“Is this real, or is this just a ride?”

And other people have remembered and they come back to us and they say, “Hey, don’t worry, don’t be afraid… Ever… because this is just a ride.”

And we kill those people!

“Shut him up. We have a lot invested in this ride.

Shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry.

Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real.”

It’s just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that. Do you ever notice that? And we let the demons run amok. But it doesn’t matter…. because, it’s just a ride. And we can change it any time we want.

It’s only a choice.

No effort, no work, no jobs, no savings of money…. a choice right now between fear and love.

The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off.

The eyes of love instead see all of us as one.

Here’s what we can do to change the world right now… to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defense each year and instead spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded and we can explore space…. together…. both inner and outer…. forever, in peace.

Actually, that is Minor Threat (lyrics by Ian MacKaye). Rage covered their song “In My Eyes”

Not necessarily “inspiring,” but apt:
To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting. -Sun Tzu, The Art of War

A revolution is coming – a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough – but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability. – John F. Kennedy

Every generation needs a new revolution. – Thomas Jefferson
